Evening all,
I've recently purchased a 330cd M sport, on a 55 plate, 24k miles, manual. Lovely car and my first foray into BMW ownership. The thing is when I turn the engine off it really sounds like a bag of bolts, I mean it's not horrendous (no over run, no problem actually switching off) but it's noticable notheless. I also own a 120k mile 2.5tdi audi and it sounds nothing like the BMW.

Does anyone else own a 330cd who can tell me whether this is normal?? I don't really want to go to the dealer and ask, although it is under their used car warranty...

TIA

Our 330d sounds rough on turn off as well. 120d sounds fine though. I always thought it was me imagining it...

My old 330d's have done the same.

I replaced the vibration damper which is the lowest pulley you can see at the bottom of the engine and that seemed to cure it significantly. It's not cheap though at about £190.

Does it still do it if you push in the clutch. My Z4 can sometime make a bit of noise when switched off, told its a feature of the transmission design (ie something annoying but not problematic).

I think so, we always leave the car in gear when parked at home (steep drive) so I'm never in neutral with the clutch up when shutting it off.
