Hi Everyone,

Has anyone had a tow bar fitted to their RS6 V10 and if so how did you go about it ?

Thanks for your help,

Richard

i'm afraid it's not permissible according to Audi on any of the RS models - i was told they won't fit one to my RS6 v10 and if i chose to do so without their knowledge it would invalidate the warranty. something to do with the gearbox overheating if u nail up up a mountain pass with a caraven attached....nonsense.

You can't fit a tow bar to an RS6 Avant I'm afraid because if you do you'll invalidate the factory warranty! Harry Metcalfe (of EVO magazine fame) currently has an RS6 Avant on long term test (fast fleet at the back of the mag) and he wanted to fit a tow bar but was told 'No!' for the reason that there is a tiny, miniscule chance that if you were towing something the size of a fully grown elephant up the Alps in 40 degrees C the gear box oil 'might' overheat!confused

So the short answer is: No, sorry, you can't! biggrin

They don't have EU type approval - so if you were involved in an accident with a towbar fitted to one you would have no insurance.

Presumably only if you are actually towing something, or are they going to argue it upsets the balance or some similar rubbish?

Type approval is required to make and sell a towbar in volume. If you can make one, or adapt one from another Avant, and get your insurers to agree then type approval is irrelevant.

Audi could only justifiably refuse a warranty claim if use of the towbar was directly relevant to the failure, but in the event of anything transmission/gearbox/suspension related I expect you'd be faced with proving that it wasn't the problem.

I suspect its more likely that for the few they will sell it's not worth the $$$ to design and certify it.
