How do I keep granite clean?

I've got a great new kitchen with nice black granite worktops and floor. Looks brilliant when it's clean, but everything seems to leave a mark.

Walk around with bare feet and it marks the floor, put a cup on the worktop and you get a ring.

Trying to wipe it with a dishcloth and you get a smear and have to polish all over again.

Other than staying out of the kitchen, have you guys got any tips on how to keep it shiney?

When I first put a granite work top in a kitchen for, what seemed then, a huge sum of money, I worried about keeping it clean and shiny.

This lasted about 6 weeks.

Now I don't worry about it at all - use it and abuse it, it's granite. It looks fine.

Having said that, I do live in an old rustic cottage type place, I guess if you have an uber modern minimalist kitchen....

Yeah it's sealed. I'ts the muck does'nt get in it just smears on top

Window/glass cleaner seemed to do the trick in my old place.

Wine and vinegar will still stain it, so clean this up.

As for general toughness, its survived for 1000s of years so far in massive pressures and temps. I doubt even mrs randomman's cooking could do worse!

Damp cloth then dry with a microfibre cloth.

Water and then wiped off with a bounty does the trick. Or for a deeper clean I use dettol kitchen wipes and then buff with a bounty towel. Easy really!

I use the Dettol Surface Cleanser in the trigger spray bottle. Works a smear free treat.

You need to chisel that smudge away with a rock hammer.

Much as I hate to admit it given their eco-bks nature e cloths are really good on granite and stainless steel.

Tea spoon of fairy liquid in one of those squirty spray bottles that you get for watering plants....then top up with water and use those industrial blue rolls of paper to wipe down.

We just use a damp microfibre cloth, works fine with no smears.

wear slippers and use a coaster you heathen

lint free cloth just for worktops, keep it away from grease - no need for detergents or sprays
