I've never been to devils pit (due to go there at the end of Feb) but it doesn't look so much of a mudbath as Whaddon is, last weekend at Whaddon there were people getting stuck in the car park with All Terrains on. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PY2-uwvb-Xo (shameless youtube of whaddon, my jeep is the second one running ATs that week and you can see how much more wheelspin i was getting)

I'd guess devils pit may be better if you are running road tyres based on the different difficulty routes and some of the pictures from their site.

I think you'll struggle most places on full road tyres, so if you're going to get into this, but still want to be able to use the Jeep on road without much compromise, you might want to consider getting something like BF Goodrich ATs (All Terrains).

I fitted them on my Shogun, and they've been very, very good, although the locking rear diff on that also helps! There really isn't much difference on road, but a huge one off it. Also, they seem to last for ever. 150k miles is not uncommon for a set, apparently.

If you do get ATs fitted, you might want to look for events around Bordon in Hampshire (Slab Common is one, I can't remember the others), which are run on MOD land there. The terrain is very sandy, so tends to drain reasonably well much of the time. It's also wide, open terrain, so a good place to start.

sounds a bit far fetched, that is one hundred and fifty thousand miles you've quoted. half the cars and 4x4's in the local scrappy havn't got that on the clock. Hmmmmmm

It seemed fairly unlikely to me when I went looking for reviews and the like as well, but go for a look on the web. There are plenty of people who are replacing them at absurdly high mileages just because the sidewalls have started to perish.

I've had mine on for a year and 12k miles so far, and apart from being dirty, they still look like new. Not a sign of any wear to the tread whatsoever. I almost wish I could fit them to my V8, as a set of tyres on that lasts me 10k miles at best!

As for trucks with those mileages, the last time I went out with a bunch of Shoguns and Pajeros, mine was the baby of the whole lot, having only covered 165,000 miles.

Went to devils pit 3 or 4 times over the last 2 year,very good site if its wet you need all the right kit.I have ARB's on my 90 and the winch was needed get me out.One tip I will give you is wash the mud off as fast as you can it go's like concrete.

If you go to Devil's Pit make sure you wash off the underside properly afterwards. It's clay rather than mud which probably doesn't do corrosion any favours.
