Been a while since I bought my last watch and am getting an itch to buy the Cartier Santos 100 Chronograph. Seen a steel one with brown leather strap in Mappin & Web.

Wondered if any of you have this watch and what your thoughts were?

I'm buying the watch to keep so not really worried about resale aspects etc...

This kind of thing?

Looks like a modified tank... Whilst I realise that Cartier are an established watch brand, I can't help but shake the 'jewellery' tag the name inspires for me...(IMHO, of course!)

Ah - ok.

Not my cup of tea but don't let that stop you. A friend of mine has a few Cartiers but I don't get them. I think as has been said, it's the Jewelry aspect that I find hard to get over.

Brietling Navitimer

Im not an IWC, PP or AP fan...

If you like it, go for it!

I'm also going square - B&R 01-92.

It's a great everyday watch which works casually or dressed up, I found the 100 chrono too big so went for the standard 100 but now wish I had gone for the chrono - go for it, you will enjoy it judging by your other watches we have a very similiar collection

If you are after square ish
what about JLC Squadra - much nicer in my opinion also less of a 'fashion/jewelry' image than Cartier
Girard Perregaux 1945 or Richville
IWC - Da Vinci
Zenith - Grand Porte Royal/Port Royal

Some of the above are not strictly square - but then neither is the Santos

IMHO its the daddy of square watches but to have access to it I'd need to part exchange a few of mine above, which Id rather not to smile
