This time next month I'll be on the slopes. Woohoo!
I'm an intermediate skiier, got my own rossignol carvers. I'm also pretty fit (run 30-40 miles a week, do circuit training, weights etc). However, I'd like to build up some much better leg endurance for skiing over the next month. Would any of the PH skiiers be able to give me some tips? I notice the ski club has a page on this, but I'm too stingy to pay the £20....
The main thing I can think of would be squats / lunges, with reasonable weights and high reps. The main source of muscle pain for me historically has always been the bottom of my quads / inner edges of lower thighs / knees.
Ta much.

Don't see why you shouldn't be ski fit as you are with all that running.
I regard exercise as the work of the devil and nothing on this planet would ever, ever get me in the gym. Consequently I do none.
I ski quite hard from first lift in the morning until they close and all I ever suffer is burning thighs towards the end of the first day.

You should be ski fit as it is with the exercise you do. Work on being balanced on your skis as you're probably leaning back a bit hence relying on your quads to keep you upright. Sounds like a technique issue rather than a fitness one.I would recommend attending a few classes of Bikram Yoga. Apart from giving every muscle in your body a good workout, there are several of those 'sitting on an invisible chair' type exercises that would benefit skiers. It will also make you more supple so less danger of injuring muscles on the slopes.

You need to ramp-up your drinking gradually in the run up to your trip. Bulk buying desperados and the most horrific tasting spirits you can find should help here.
Seconded. You also need to perfect your faffing technique by remembering needed items only after locking the front door, gauging the annoyance of your partner as you increase the number of times you nip back.Gassing Station | The Pie & Piston Archive | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
