Pre-Christmas there were masses of E46 M3s at low prices and nothing selling.

The classifieds now seem to be full of 'Sold' signs.

Have people suddenly realised these are incredible bargains?

Presumably the ones that have now sold were by forced sellers, whereas now that a lot of those have cleared the market, sellers are less desperate and probably don't need the cash as much anyway.

I bought pre-Christmas at a silly price. I'm so glad I did, not because I think prices are going to go up (far from it - depreciation is a fact of life), but because below a certain price, they offer such fun for so little. I've already written off what I spent as I have no intention of selling anytime soon. This one is a keeper :rotate

Could it be something to do with the Exchange rate, but then would the Germans want to bring the cars back with wrong hand drive ?

Bought my 04 smg with 38k 2 weeks ago for 15.5k, seems great value to me, until you factor in the KWs, APs and supercharger.......

The E46 M3 is one of the best bargains out there at the moment IMO. Not quite as good a deal as an E36 of course but then I'm biased!

That is good. I paid £17400 for my 54 plate manual with 38000 miles. Was yours a private sale?
I managed to get a full set of Continentals, BMW service , centre armrest,Warranty, and a years tax at that. Still makes yours a bargain.

Don't be fooled by all the 'bargains' about at the moment though... there are one or two gems about, but there's a LOT of rough ones that have been bought, but not necessarily maintained. They may cost Mondeo money to buy, but they certainly aren't Mondeo money to run. A few stories are surfacing on the M sites about cars that need a few thousand spending within weeks of purchase.

The one I nearly bought before this one had just had it's Inspection II done... which turned out to only be an oil change and a stamp in the book! God know's what would have been discovered if I'd bought it then taken in to BMW the following week....

I paid £20k for a 20,000 mile '04 SMG in black with Imola leather and 19's in September, and even back then I was seeing a lot of rough ones for the money.

Still absolute weapons for the money though!

If your looking at a private car get it checked out by the local main dealer, it's the same check they do before they put a car on the forecourt, cost me £99 which is cheap for peace of mind.

Only problem with that, is you have to convince the seller to let you take it their yourself and that you're not going to steal/crash it.

Or convince the seller to take time off work and take the car for you, as most dealers won't do it on the weekend (I found anyway)

Both not the easiest things to arrange...
