Hi guy's,

I'm in the process of selling my TVR Chimaera and amongst others i'm thinking of an ST220 as a replacement. 2 completely different cars i know! Is there anything to look out for with these cars? Do they have a reasonable amount of grunt (I haven't driven one yet)? Any info would be appreciated

Coming from a TVR, probably not. They aren't slow by any means but they are a very nice, refined car which plenty of toys.

Obviously go for a facelift for the improved interior.

Things I was told to look out for was the rear bumper sagging and the rust under the doors. Can pick up some decent bargains at the moment so you get a lot of car for your money.

They aren't the best car to mod either. Pumaspeed do a ST250 kit for £1000 which includes a remap, exhaust and a K&N induction kit. To get more from the engine then your going to have to spend some serious cash.

power wise i'm not too bothered, as long as it can over take comfortably and carry 4 people without much fuss it will be ok. I like the look of the ford and the fact they are quite cheap compared to the german saloons. I've had enough of expensive cars which need constant fettling to keep them on the road!

Yes they have a LOT of grunt, and the way they pick up from 60mph in 3rd is enough to embarrass a lot of 3 litre cars that cost more money

sounds good, i imagined they would have a bit of go in them, i'm not expecting it to be anywhere near my TVR in terms of performance but the extra seats, much better fuel consumption and practicality will be very welcome!

not bad for a big heavy car with a v6. It's only 3 seconds slower to 60 than my TVR! Lol!

You can get the ST up to 250-260bhp without much expense I've heard.

They are pretty quick cross country, and will leave most things top end due to their superior aerodynamics. Mine rolling roaded with 215ft/lb @ 5,000RPM, 95% of which is available from 2,500RPM so they have a decent amount of torque. However if you are laden at 40mph in 6th gear then there is very little power, not that you should be in 6th gear at that speed but just proving a point.

30-60 in 4th is a nip under 7 seconds, as is 50-70 in 5th.

to be honest as long as it feels as like the throttle is connected to something other than a hairdryer i'm not too fussed. I need the car to get people in and travel in comfort. It's going to be purely a mode of transport which can be driven without constantly thinking about how hard i can touch the throttle and brakes! it's a toss up between the ST and a BMW 330 at the moment, i'm going to drive both and decide

You might be disappointed with the fuel consumption then biggrin

Mine averages 25, with very low 20s on a spirited drive, and only high 20s on a long distance motorway cruise. It is only a 5 speed though.

Mine seems to sit at 30mpg regardless of my driving, unless I try hard either way.

Drop me a line. Had a 450 Chimaera for 2 years as an only car, then went to ST200, now on an ST220.
