I noticed today that my Cruise Control is very reluctant to engage. Mostly, a twist of the lever on the stalk produces nothing at all, but occasionally you can see that for a fraction of a second it has engaged, only to drop out again almost immediately.

Just before I arrange another 2hr round trip to my nearest Monaro dealer, I was wondering if anyone knows the best areas to check for obvious faults. My first thought is the switch for the break pedal, but I'm not entirely sure where that is exactly. Otherwise, is this an ECU related issue that could be diagnosed with the right gadget?

Any help greatly appreciated!!

you sure you're turning it on properly, been a while but I think you're missing a step out there - don't you have to enable cruise and then twist the stalk to set the speed, push button on end of stalk to enable?? something like that anyway.

Sorry for the hijack - this was a question I was just about to ask so seems silly to create another thread for it.

Yes you need to switch the system on by pressing the button on the end of the stalk, you then set the speed by twisting the end of the same stalk.

Yep, you do... I use it all the time, just today it's not staying in with the twist, as if something along the chain of acceptable parameters for the cruise control to engage and stay engaged, is not acceptable if you see what I mean (ie foot brake off, clutch out, above certain speed etc).

cruse control works in 2nd to 6th gear and any speed above 20mph. and disengages when you press the break or clutch. but stays on when you accelerate.

to operate CC get up to the speed you want. say 70 turn it on by pressing the button on the end of the stalk (display in car should say its now active) and then twist the stalk up and it will match the speed you are currently doing.

if CC is all ready on and you wish to set it to your new speed e.g. from 70 - 80 then just twist the end of the stick upwords twice in quick concession. opposite way to slow it down.

Anyone tried setting their cruise at 60/70 then drop to 2nd, slow to just above 20mph and hit the resume button?

Not quite, but I once did a similar thing in a Senator 24V auto and that was interesting enough.

I've tried several times and the cruise dis-engages if the engine starts pulling really hard, could it be the ECU is set up this way?
