Hi, I dont know if anyone is interested but I have been tallking to the Time Attack boys again about them running an open wheeled class and this is what they have come up with:

. A Time Attack Open Wheeler Series running over 5 rounds at various venues around the UK

· A minimum of 10 spaces and a maximum of 15 spaces in the TA 09 Series for the class

· The class to have trophies and points with an overall Champion for the class, or classes as it may be the case that this may be required. A minimum amount of 8 would be required to form a stand alone class

· Session timings as follows; Warm Up 10 mins, Practice 20 mins, Practice (or Qualifying) 20 mins, Final 15mins

· Inclusion on our TA web site for the class and drivers

· Pit and paddock facilities for you to all park together

Your thoughts!!

well they have to differentiate the cars to justify them being in a seperate class and thus not humiliating the Evo boys eh?! wink

Will there have to be rules to say that the open wheel cars must actually have covered wheels?

Having said that, it's not my thing but I guess there would be interest

He has a point, an open wheel class would suggest people could turn up an old F1 car. Actually thats not such a bad idea...

be gentle with john, if the subject matter doesnt have a minimum of eight cylinders, an engine capcity of at least 427 inches and a noise at tickover akin to the devil garlging gravel, he can rarely be relied upon for a constructive comment!

Hardly, i have been a little involved in these kind of cars and this championship too, I did drive and help run the 2007 TA winning car plus have driven thousands of miles on track in the ex factory demonstrator Cosworth Turbo Westfield ZEi220.

The comment still stands, it's a crap name for the class.

I am, if thats what you want to call me. ears

My job is building and running historic racecars, anything from 1950's saloons to the 9 litre Big Block CanAm cars, my leisure includes building and driving cars like the Cosworth Turbo Westie and various Turbo saloons including TA championship cars. I was part of the team that won the 2007 Pro championship and helped out a few other competitors, I'm currently helping a club runner get up and running for this year. My holiday for 2007 was a trip to Tsukuba, home of TA where we set the fastest time of any foreign team to run there.

Look back through the posts in this forum and if you can then still come to the conclusion that all i care about is big V8's, then I'll have to consider you to be a bit mental. tongue outlaugh There is plenty about Time Attack already from me if you care to look.

As to the original post, excluding the name, it could be a lot of fun for the lightweight competitors.

The danger of doing this is it's going to dilute some of the profile of the top saloon tuner cars. The whole idea behind TA was to showcase the tuners and that kind of car, if you then allow a potentially much faster class of car to compete then it's getting away from what TA was setup to do, that could be the killing of the series. They don't allow that type of car to compete in Japan, it's a saloon car series.

fair enough, the can am thing must have just stuck in my head smile i have commented on time attack a few times but never linked your name on those topics with the "johnfelstead-mclarencanambloke" in my head!

the interesting thing about this class in time attack is the fact that now ther eis no need to spend ££££s on an Evo with 600+ bhp to set a fast time, a well set up caterfield with a busa lump in it should be more than adequate working on the Chapman principles... in my opinion the new class shows that time attack is evolving into a more comprehensive series rather than being a series set up by, and run exclusively for, the jap tuners. at first i dismissed it because they seemed scared to let other, far cheaper and equally effective, cars join the fun.
