Also notice the camera zooming in/out to the newspaper so that you cannot see the glass rippling as it is lifted.

i did write out a huge in depth reply to another post concerning the psychology of magic, but i didn't bother posting...
Boiled down anyway, the trick is done exactly as you would think, the glass will be pulled up, and the main tricks are to dissuade you from thinking this, like the "open" sign apparently on window.

A better version would be a sliding sheet with a C shaped cut out, so intact sides would be clearly visable, convincing you that the glass is still as it was pre-paper...

Edit - the "better" version is the one in the video above...

The golden rule is it did happen like you think, and the trick was to convince you otherwise
