Evening all,

I have noticed over the last couple of weeks that my 2007 BMW 130i (later efficient dynamics model) makes an odd slight rattling noise when I am stationary and the car is in neutral. It's not particularly loud - in fact it sounds a bit like a modern diesel!

When I push the clutch in it stops. And it doesn't always do it, only when I've been driving a while I think. It seems to be coming from underneath the car towards the front, definitely not the exhaust.

Any ideas? It's obviously still under warranty so I'm not too concerned...

I would hazard a guess that this is more than likely your "Clutch Release Bearing" ... This would probably make a chattering type of noise and shouldnt be of great concern. My "OLD" E36 M3 does this on occasion. If your car is under BMW Warranty I would take it in to your nearest dealership and let them have a listen..

Please let someone else shed more light on this for you but my diagnosis is probably on the money and not too much to worry about, get fixed under warranty scheme..

I hope this is of some help for you.

Thanks Stu, much appreciated.

I've since had a browse on 'babybmw' and it appears to be quite a common matter.

I bought a nearly new BMW to avoid these sort of shennanigans!
