Hi guys,

Odd one this. Bought 3.0 Z4 in May. Got it home from dealer, some 200 miles, and noticed the coolant level was down. Odd, given they've just done a Coolant change, Inspection 2, etc etc as part of the predelivery process. Never mind. The dipstick was below the neck of the filler. So I topped it up until it was about half an inch above the neck of the filler in accordance with both the diagram on the header tank and the coolant level in my 530i with the same engine.

I checked the level monthly and noticed it dropping each time. By December (And still now) it was once again back below the neck of the filler cap and is now sitting about an inch short of the neck of the filler cap.

Surely this isn't right? I'm reluctant to keep topping it up because surely I should not need to do that? I don't need to constantly top my 530i up so why do I need to top the Z4 up? There is no sign at all of a leak. The car is under AUC warranty with BMW but what I really dont want to do is start incurring diagnostic charges until I'm sure there is some sort of a problem. After all, we are talking months between topups here.

Any ideas?

Not sure about that; however, I have read that the radiator is lined with a particular alloy that requires a certain cooland as others may cause corrosion. Not sure, but just a heads up.
