The fuel tank sender unit has gone open circuit. Unfortunately it appears to be a very early one with 5 screws retaining it. Has what looks like "1606" scratched on the outer surface?
Everywhere is saying that these are long since obsolete and the type available has some kind of locking ring fitment.
Has anyone fitted one of the new type to and the old fitting? ie drilled it to use the 5 screw mounting?

The five hole fitting is a standard american engineering (SAE) fitting and is widely used in aftermarket instruments (VDO, etc).Unfortunatley I haven't found one that is designed to fit in the side of the tank, all available seem to fit in the top of the tank and when questioned all the suppliers believe that any fitted in the side would leak !
The original has SW stamped on it (at least mine does), and I've guessed but far from confirmed, that this could stand for Stewert Warner, an american instrument firm which seemed to pull out of the UK around the same time as the changeover on the S. I did get as far as having an email exchange with a guy in the states who offered to send me one I could 'adapt'in exchange for a beer until he realised I was in Cleveland, NE of England and not Ohio !
Still searching though, I haven't given up ! (I think the key is marine industry as they seem to use them on boat fuel tanks)
