Does swearing in the pub ever bother you?

It surprises me sometimes the amount, volume and ferocity of the language I hear in my local!
I was in there one Saturday lunchtime with my wife and 2-year old son. He's at the stage where he copies a lot of what is said and two blokes at the bar were having a good old ranting swearing session.
Seemed that every other word was either f
k, ct, bd or n r and the last thing I want is my son trotting that out at playgroup. Come to think of it, I don't really want to hear it whilst enjoying a bar meal and pint at lunchtime.
I asked them to quiet down a bit or can the swearing because of the boy and they did, for a while.
Interestingly, the barmaid said nothing, didn't get involved or anything.
It's a great pub with good food, beer and atmosphere but I doubt I'll be back for a while.
Fair play to the guy in the article I say.

It usually is a family place actually (at lunchtime and early evening anyway). One of the reasons I was disappointed at the lack of reaction by the bar staff. I think the two profanees were locals who likely spend a lot more in the pub than I do...
Depends. In a proper pub no. If you're going to take your kids there, well, you have to expect there'll be some bad language, though I personally would try to moderate my language if there were kids present.
If you were in a proper restaurant, then I'd consider loud foul language in the presence of families and children appalling.
Unfortunately the line between pub and restaurant is blurry, now moreso than ever. I would hope that the people involved would moderate their language out of common courtesy, but I'd not be expecting them to. That probably makes no sense.

It depends. My local doesn't allow it, and kick offenders out. However, if I want a drink with the boys, and know there will be swearing, we go 100 yards up the road to another pub that allows it.
If someone complained in the second pub, they would be told if they don't like it, feel free to leave.

Absolutely agree. I'd rather listen to someone effing and blinding, than a baby crying. A "blokey" pub is no place for children, or women of a sensitive disposition.A 2 year old should not be in a pub.

Something for you to consider.... the pub is that bastion of free speech, where a man can go and let rip, get the days grief off his chest, unwind and have a bit of a swear.What are you doing bringing your impressionable 2 year old into such a place?

What really bugs me is people being racist and thinking its acceptable.
Was having lunch in a chinese restaurant a while back and this chav at the table next to me was talking loudly into his Nokia C.H.4.V phone:
"Aye, im in the chinkys"
while the nice wee chinese waitress was clearing his table.
"Comin doon the chinkys?"
etc...
