Implications of a smaller than standard oil filter

Anyone know if this would cause me problems?

The XR2 has a Zetec conversion, and I've used the CVH filter without any problems.

Now that the Quantum has an FRST engine in it, the Mk3 Fiesta CVH oil filter is too big to fit into the remaining space. The standard XR2 one is also too big so I'm thinking of using a 1.4 Zetec one instead. Threads are the same, presumably it's just going to be lower filtration?

Or am I going to do strange things to the oil pressure and pump?

It shouldn't affect oil pressure... your oil pump should be capable of producing more than enough flow and has it's own relief valve for the excess.

Should be fine - there's always the option of a remote filter housing if you're paranoid, though!

The Zetec in my Westie runs a smaller oil filter than original, with no problems so far(6+ years).

many modified vehicles use a smaller filter just need to change it more often

Thanks all, that was the reassurance I wanted.

I'm not too bothered about a remote filter, I think with what I'd gain on filter size I'd lose in piping and I dont really have much space left to work with.

It's pretty much a brand new engine (rebuild) and needs running in so frequent changes are on the plan, it's just getting around to doing the miles. Currently at 12 miles in 3 months

Must be time for another oil change....
