Anyone know anything about deactivated guns?
Discussion
Another thread on here pointed to a site selling deactivated guns in the UK. I had a browse through because they have all sorts. Now one of the things I notice is that some of them are 'OLD SPEC' which seems to be a bit of a big deal. What's the reason for this? And how can this site sell a fully functioning current spec' M4?

Maybe because they are legal to own in the States, but that would mean the gun never came into this country and it was just advertising it from somewhere they are legal to own. Why the hell would they do that? Now I am confused as well..Edited..

Maybe because they are legal to own in the States. I am sure they would not ship it worldwide.old spec is basically pre 1995 deacs
mainly applied to sub machine guns and automatic rifles these basically had all the moving parts either removed and destroyed of completely welded in place ie no moving parts or able to field strip now worth a premium to collectors
LMG's pistols and bolt action rifles remain pretty much as they were prior to 95 and on barrels slotted at least 3/4 there length and solid bar welded in, breach feed ramps cut, firing pins and breach faces milled of to 45 degrees, locking and slide lugs milled to remove strength, barrels pinned in place to prevent removal.

I bought a Mk II deactivated Bren a number of years ago with fully moving parts. Has a deactivation cert. Paid £200. Collectable?mainly applied to sub machine guns and automatic rifles these basically had all the moving parts either removed and destroyed of completely welded in place ie no moving parts or able to field strip now worth a premium to collectors

If the (old spec) are only de activated by having a blocked barrel and locked internals surely it shouldn't take much for a competent engineer to return them to service?
If this is the case I wouldn't be surprised if there's a thriving black market in 'deactivated' weapons purely for this purpose.

even early deacts are extensively butchered with particular attention to pressure bearing components. If this is the case I wouldn't be surprised if there's a thriving black market in 'deactivated' weapons purely for this purpose.
If you have the tools and knowledge to reactivate a deactivated firearm then you have the capability to knock together a Sten gun . if you have ever seen or held a Sten you will understand what I mean.
The press would have you believe that 10 minutes with a few household tools will have you up and running with an uzi......not so
Getting hold of the ammo is then your next hurdle.
For all things deac'd then check out: http://www.cybershooters.org/phpBB2/viewforum.php?...
If you are interested in the real thing, or need to equip your own private army, try this site http://www.helstongunsmiths.com/fr_mil-1.html
They also have deacs available at remarkably low prices http://www.helstongunsmiths.com/fr_shop-1.html for £125 you can buy an AK47 which is sure to scare the hell out of trick or treaters when they knock on your door (do bear in mind that you'll probably get quite a long sentence if you do that!)
You can also buy a battle tank, APC or some heavy artillery.....would look great parked on the front lawn!

I doubt anyone would bother - there is a thriving black market in perfectly active firearms...If this is the case I wouldn't be surprised if there's a thriving black market in 'deactivated' weapons purely for this purpose.

Jeez! that site is amazing and scary. I fancy a De Ac Rocket Launcher as it would be well useful in Sarf London.
