Just had a someone rear end me on the M1. I'll try and get some pics tomorrow in the light, but it's in a bad way. The rear end is totalled, the drivers door doesn't open properly, there are cracks over the rear arches. Right mess weeping

Horrible, but the positive is that you're ok and it won't be your insurance that pays..

Hope you manage to get it resolved soon..

But literally only 90 seconds before the traffic all stopeed, a lady in a Toyota had pulled in between me and him!

Yep he rammed her in the back! That was good luck for me bad for her!

You may find the insurance co wants to write-it-off - fight them, please.

They mend, I promise you they mend. When I was taken out by the wk3r who went through the lights at red I have never been so angry. But in the cold light of day my cerb came home 100% perfect and his insurance paid one bloody expensive bill and the was just for the merc hire car i had for 6 months.

Volospan, I'm glad, as everyone is, that you are o.k. The same happened to me just days before going to LeMans '07 by a woman who rammed me whilst I was stationary at the lights. The car can be repaired. Mine was boarderline write off due to the cost of repair and not because it was irrecoverably damaged. See what the insurance people say and then if it's bad it may be worth buying back. Insurance repair is always more expensive than private repair and that's why premiums are so high. Hang on to your p&j. My sympathy is with you. Best of luck with the result.
Once again, it is not the TVR driver in their crazy fast car which lead to an accident.

Just to repeat glad everyone was Ok.

On the insurance / P&J side...if the accident is not your fault...so the 3rd party (the other driver) is to blame and has accepted this, do they (the insurance company) have the right to write your car off...?

Surely they should return 'you' to where you were before their tool of a client drove into you..?

If you really want to keep it, you could negotiate a deal, some of them will do it. When my Chim got smacked i had a brand new 911 as my replacement car! i think that was costing them £350 a day plus what it cost to repair the car. They rang ME up to see if we could come to an arrangement. If its just the tub split get a decent repair for cash and you could come out better off. Best of luck.

You're OK, that's the important thing in any accident let alone a rear-shunt on the m-way, could have been a lot worse. Cerberas do look very mangled after even a small crunch, mainly due to the excellent impact absorption of the bodyshell.

Fight the ins co tooth and nail if they want to write it off, they have no comprehension of these cars and are just number crunching in an office somewhere making their shareholders happy. If you need any pointers to repairers in the SE drop me a PM.

Hope you get it sorted before the good weather is upon us. smile

Well, in the cold light of day the damage looks like the whole rear end ranging from smashed to pieces to delaminated from the gel coat, with large cracks and splinters above the rear passenger wheel arch and damage to the rear drivers side wheel arch.

Oddly the drivers door seems to have come unstuck in the night. I assume the body was slightly twisted which has "sprung" back a bit. However, I think it will basically need a full replacement back end from one wheel arch right around to the other.

As a question to those in the know... how much effect does the bodywork have on safety. I'm surprised how well it survived as she hit me pretty hard. Her car was undrivable! I'm worried that the insurance garage will just "fill" those cracks around the wheel arches thus causing a weakness in the body for any future incident.

What do I do about the garage and repairs? Apparently their garage will contact me today to discuss when they can pick the car up. How do people feel about a standard insurance company repair garage doing the work. I'm rather concerned myself...

One other concern is that if they do write it off and offer me cash, they will never consider the fact that I have recently spent a huge amount of cash on new cams and clutch. I'm not sure, after that experience, that I could bring myself to buy another without good evidence that those parts have been recently replaced as I simply couldn't afford to have them fail on me again!!
