People speaking their minds regarding a group that has wronged them is one thing (chavs, dvla, councils, letting agents to name but a few), but the hatemongering that goes on whenever religious beliefs are mentioned is sickening and carries on to ridiculous levels even when the provoking original story is clearly a troll or example of the media bs that they profess to disgust.

I think its time for the moderators to lock threads that turn into such vitriolic abuse, or run a general poll on whether or not threads on such topics should continue.

Just for your perspective, I would call myself a christian, I dont feel threatened by this abuse, it just saddens me to see such hate over nothing (My experience of religion has been that yes, people do awful things in the name of it, but for every 1 of those there are a 1000 of the sort of people of good consience and character that PHers once again claim is so missing from society) and people jumping on it as a popular bandwagon topic is just going to drive away those people.

If you made it this far without thinking 'how can I provoke the OP with some form of religious debate', congratulations.

People hate a lot of things. TBH your point may have came across more strongly had you not admitted to being a christian, as this suggests that you view is one of an offended believer than an objector to the way things are discussed.

I suppose it is a fact of discussion boards you get opposing views and some with extremes of these. You also get bored people posting for a reaction. I don't want to turn this into a religious discussion but my personal view is religion is pointless, I don't wish to be drawn into why nor do I want to criticise those that worship a god like entity. I also will not get offended when someone sgs me off for disliking religion.

If you see anything that is out of line then just hit the report button and the mods will definitely check it out and take whatever action they think necessary.

They don't get time to read every thread, so things can slip under their radar. User reports are a valued tool for spotting what needs keeping an eye on and also judging what our members find offensive in the first place.

I'm not one bit religious but the one that is annoying me at the moment is people refering to God/Allah/Quetzalcoatyl/the pink pixie in the sky/Govinda or whichever other deity as 'your imaginary friend'.

Can we just stop it please? It's starting to get a little tedious.

It is just the latest 'in' joke, everyone will soon get bored with it and it will fall out of favour again, just like OXO, MX5 and (mapped) have done in the past.

I wouldn't be so sure, I've been taking the piss out of God Botherers' with this phrase for the last thirty years or so...
