It's time for a British Revolution

We're not perfect on the other side of the pond, but from everything I read and hear about Britain, is it turning into a hell for the average citizen. Not only do you have unwanted immigrants coming around in droves, but you don't have the means to protect your house or property against thugs as guns were taken away and I suspect had they not, you'd get in massive trouble executing them on your front lawn.
In addition, you are taxed to hell on just about everything, so much so that it wouldn't surprise me if you have to pay to breathe in a few years. And the whole movement towards green at the expense of sanity, ah!
I was reading about the many British men on the Titanic who sank with the ship because of the way they were raised. Are you taught to stand idly by and do nothing when your dear Britain burns to the ground?
You need to get a new government, you need to arm yourself, and you need to stop importing unwanteds. At least you have a 40 mile bit of water between you and France to help with that!

It is easy to become introspective, protectionist or even racist (see my post above, with tongue in cheek), but time will heal all, even if it will be an unpleasant journey.
There's nothing new wrong with the country.
There are simply more opportunities to spread panic since the advent of the internet and rolling news. The internet has also served as an ideal medium for the long-standing British pastime of bleating about the state of the nation.
For some peculiar reason, each generation seems to believe their problems are in some way unique.
The current hysteria about chavs is merely a continuation of the fuss that was made about punks, or mods, or rockers, or hippies etc, etc.
People will tell you the NHS, the transport network, the justice system, the education system and the benefits system are all broken to varying degrees. They are correct. So were all their predecessors who have been saying the same thing ever since the inception of these institutions.
The ethnic make-up of the country may have changed by 2 or 3 percent and there has been a recent influx of foreigners, many of whom are happy to work hard in jobs which are often perceived as menial and low paid. This is causing the same fuss that the arrival of post-war migrants caused.
Another common complaint is that we live in a big brother society; indeed the government are thinking of introducing ID cards. While unwelcome, it's certainly nothing that hasn't been done here before.

I have a Barbour but my family are no oil paintings, my ancestors are Spanish Irish - their fleet sunk off county Mayo and they moved to Scotland in the first instance.
But we're talking about the NOW - and there's just no comparison.

We have a lot of unwanted illegal immigrants? What happened to the 15 million you have? I have two shotguns and a rifle to protect my home, but as we have about 60 gun deaths a year and you have 12000, we'll persevere with our system a little longer.AUDIHenry said:

As far as the Titanic comment, I, as an American, would not abandon my wife and kids and put them at the mercy of whomever happend to be the most dominant on the boat. If needed, I'd throw over any men to make room.
As far as the channel, it's 21 miles at the shortest point at the Strait of Dover, but much wider in the other areas, thus my 40 miles.
And don't worry about us: we might have democrats, but Americans will never stand for the same kind of rape-like taxation that you seem to enjoy.
If there are more people like you in Britain, I hope it continues to get worse for you.

My point was that I don't see that there's been any kind of seismic shift in British culture. The problems we face now are largely the problems we've always faced. "This is the way it's always been."

What are we supposed to be changing back into? The Britain where we all lived in thatched cottages and drove a pony and trap never existed. It doesn't snow at Christmas either.
Nice idea, but what would we revolt for? It's all well and good to kick out the government but while half the country would want lower taxes and some of them would want guns, the other half would want to re-open the coal mines, and a big chunk would say "oooh, guns? Look at America."
Then we'd have some mish mash Bill of Rights including free health care for all and some bizzare right to pass on a clean environment and low CO2 emmissions to our children, and a constitution guaranteeing free speech except for hate crime and discriminatory remarks.
In short, the government of this country are more a symptom than a cause of the problem. The problem is the people. We're still struggling for an identity now that we are not an empire, or really even a major power any more either militarily or industrially.
