Plane on a conveyor belt in a wind tunnel

Actually, what if the plane was switched off, but got sufficient lift from the wind tunnel to take off, while moving backwards on the conveyor belt?
It would take off. And then decelerate, descend and be driven into the back of the wind tunnel by the belt. What do you mean by 'switched off'?RDE said:

Would it take off under the same circumstances?
When we test aircraft models in the wind tunnel as the wind speed increases/angle of attack increases the aircraft takes off (on the test bed) and the screen can tell us how much lift it generates.
Obviously it doesn't go backwards because it's fixed to the leverage arm of the tunnel and it doesn't go forward because there is no thrust.
It really isn't a hard concept to grasp.

ks ,cant be bothered ,I'm off to top myself (or i might just hang around - might be more fun!)AJS- said:
Would it take off while stationary if the wind tunnel wasblowing from the front at the same speed as the conveyor belt was running backwards and the plane trying to go forwards at enough speed to take off?
The wind blowing from the front has just given it a nice headwind, increasing lift. Blowing takeoff speed from the rear though...Gassing Station | The Pie & Piston Archive | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
