why are family summer sun holidays so expensive?

just been playing about online with the major tour operators web sites and i'm astounded by the prices of summer holidays.

A family of four to places like cyprus and greece,you'd be hard pushed to get a week all inclusive for less then 2 grand.

I can see why people stay in the UK at those prices!!

Why are they so expensive

because they can

The same reason they're cheap a few weeks out of the holidays; supply and demand.

I can understand why parents do opt to take holidays outside the school hols.

We charge a weekly rate for the long weekend in our house near Le Mans. We don't make a profit, as we lose 2 weeks possible bookings for the one week rental over the weekend.

2 Grand, you are having a laugh, we couldn't get anywhere near that, ended up paying 2700 for family of four all inclusive to Turkey through Thomas Cook, and this was with a big discount off brochure (And do not get me started on School fekkin holidays, we are saving another 400 by travelling down to Manchester before English hols start.

I think that the High Street is slowly catching up with the Interweb, as they could always at least match, usually beat any prices I found, and to be honest it makes me fell better dealing with people face to face. (And help keeping them in a job )

Because everyone wants to go during the school hols. All of Europe have mostly the same summer break.
If you want it cheaper just take the kids out of school mid-term and threaten the Head Teacher with a kiddie fiddling courtcase if he tries to fine you.

Turkey is one of the best bets for a cheaper Holl, least it will be once you get there....

A couple of years ago we (2 Adults one child) were offered in June - £560 for 2 weeks SC to Turkey In summer school holls it is about £1500 - Rip off

April or Oct prob a far better bet as long as the destination is still hot & not partly closed as its out of season.

We have holiday cottages in Devon and often get asked why we are so expensive in peak times - well, we do this for a living so don't earn anything in the winter months, but have to keep the site going, pay business rates etc. In winter, we re-decorate and do whatever needs repairing in preparation for the busy times. So in a way, the summer visitors are subsidising the rest - it has hit us hard not being able to take kids out of school outside the holidays - we used to get lots of families in May/June but not lately. Personally, when my own kids were at school, I feel they benefitted more from a family holiday than they did from sitting in front of a supply teacher or tidying up the classroom! Obviously we never took them out at important times or exam times. It's a shame that schools don't trust parents to do what is best for their own children. In some cases, the kids won't have a holiday at all unless it's in an off-peak time.

I'd say the location of where you go has more influence than the type of board you select.

I'd say it's because taking the kids out of school is a bag no-no and the travel companies know that. Get your kids to contract some disease that means they might be out of action for two weeks, then cheap holidays here you come.

I don't see too many of them in the Maldives..... It's far better to go all incl. when you are trapped on an Island with only one source of food and drink.....

I sir am certainly no chav,just looking to save a few pennies,i would never tie myself to a hotel for 1 week and even when all inclusive,still eat and drink elsewhere on occasions to get a better feel for the location etc.

Surely it's pointless paying twice?

Payign for the food in the hotel AND paying outside the hotel too?

Edit- also is it £500 including EVERYTHING (tax, "booking fees" etc etc)

We had some prices recently for a week in Fuerteventura or Menorca, 2 adults, 2 kids and it was a few quid shy of 2k.....I think it's extortionate personally.

With the exchange rate as it is at the moment you may be right, but generally it's still pricier in the UK. Unless you camp.
