Kent Performance Cam- new member
Discussion
Hi all,
I am recently a TVR owner again after an 18 year gap since my Taimar had to go. I now have a metallic blue S2 with 39K on the clock and in pretty good shape.
I was told when I bought it a few weeks ago that it had a 'racing cam' and looking through the very comprehensive history there is no record of it being fitted. A note from a mechanic on one bill relating to misfire says the owner had informed a Kent Performance cam was in the car.
Now for the question. The car ticks over like an idiot, sounds rough and is lumpy in traffic. The thing is when I get on the open road and open up it flies and sounds so sweet. It does backfire slightly when changing gear if I take it up to the rev limit. Is this normal behaviour for a performance cam or should it be better behaved? I like the performance but the lumpy town driving is getting to be an irritation (must be getting old). I replaced the lugs thinking it was a duff one but then found out it has had 3 plug changes in 5k miles.
Any advice would be most welcome.
Peter

Last time i checked the hottest Kent cam you can have fitted to the Cologne engine is the 276, as the Con rods won't rally take any more revs so it negates the benefits of putting a hotter cam in where you have to rev more. The lumpy idle and bad town behavior certainly points towards a 276 profile, which certainly has lumpy idle, should com on cam 2500 - 3000 IIRC, but could be wrong. Not sure about the backfire, most of the guys here experience that when they change at the limiter but I have yet to.
Oh and welcome to our little world.
