Ahem...

having a clean and inspection session on the old Wedge, so have the trumpet base orff. My trumpets look a lot like standard Rover SD1 items. Is this normal on a NCK engined 390SE? It looks as though the inlet manifold has been portmatched to the trumpet base, but I thought the trumpets were non-standard too...

38mm internal diameter, 100mm total trumpet height. They're parallel sided with a teenytiny silly little flare at the top, made of steel.

Any ideas, fellows trumpeteers?

Nope sorry, they're standard for most 390SEs.

You'll probably find it has standard 3.5 injectors and airflow meter too.

All of which has been proven to show that the 390 cannot possibly make 275bhp.

The originals *should* be slightly tapered (more obvious if you roll them on a flat surface).

I guess they might be slightly tapered. I'll go have a look.

Yep, 2AM air flow meter, probably standard injectors.

Watch those trumpets, if one hits you in the face it can cost you a grand. That's what happened to me on Friday afternoon while removing the trumpets from a spare trumpet base. The grand's for the dentist's bill.weeping Could've spent that on the Wedge!!!!!!

My spare trumpet base is exactly the same as my 390's base. The reason for all the fiddling with trumpets is that I bought some 10mm Tufnel and was going to get an insulator made plus machine down the trumpet base by 10mm so that I can still close the bonnet.

Well milling the base make sure you don't take too much off, else it will hit the fuel rail.
Also remember to drill the peg holes deeper before you mill it, this way you can make sure you drill the right place.
Also if fitting an insulator your need longer pegs.

I'm sure my 400SE NCK had std trumpets.
It has got Cosworth pistons and modified heads, from the factory.

I think the limit with std AFM was 275. so could have just been possible with the right cam.
