Historically great depressions, which for the purposes of this thread let us assume we are facing, tend to lead to extremism so the logical step for any wannabe prime minister is probably to join the BNP - after all we've already seen some promising (from this perspective) racist strikes and I think they're going to be the tip of the iceberg.

So if you fancied becoming the next prime minister and perhaps giving yourself lebensraum in Normandy what would you be doing at the moment? A putsch in the red lion? Becoming secretary of the socialist labour party? Gunpowder in the sewers under parliament?

If you would indulge me - I am interested in the seizing of power not how you would exercise it.

Start convincing people that one group of people are to blame for everything.

Enviromentalists ideally because they are true.

Cant get a mortgage? Enviromentalists.
Cant get a nice car? Enviromentalists.
Lost your job? Enviromentalists.
Got done for speeding? Enviromentalists.

You need a target to fixate people on.

There has to be an opportunity for someone on a 'we can be eco-friendly when we're wealthy, but in the meantime how about some sensible steps to just cracking on with life' ticket.

Someone who can garner mass support for reductions in 'green' taxes and regulations, making all three mainstream parties look like the oppressor could have a good run.

If Cameron had half a brain, he could have picked up a 'Maggie-style' free-market cudgel and put clear blue water between himself/The Tories and the other parties. Instead, he buys a bike and plays the same lame eco-tunes.

If you can't get a major political party to grasp the mettle, there's only one way to change things in this country now and that's direct action. So you need a sufficient rent-a-mob to throw some rocks at the BiB along Whitehall without going so far as to let the necessary violence over-shadow the ideas and the reasoning with which to bring along those out in the Shires.

If anyone is planning a revolution, do invite me along; I've got lots to bring to the party wink

No good, needs to be something identifiable, something people can't hide or change. Ginger won't do either (hair dye).

Short people. Ideal. Can't hide shortness.

You seem to know a lot about this. Is there something you're trying to hide? Your lack of height perchance? J'accuse! Burn him!

Erm, not wanting to have your job taken by Italians is not racism! It's the ridiculous overuse and fear of the R word that largely got us into the mess in the first place.

No, it is the motivation not to lose your job. Besides, Italians are the same race as Britons. And before the next soundbyte is wheeled out, neither is it 'xenophobia' because that means an uncontrollable fear of foreigners, and this is not an uncontrollable fear.

This is simple human nature - one's sphere of interest radiates outward, eg: oneself > family > friends > town > county > country. And similarly, if Earth was threatened by aliens, every country would unite in the face of the greater enemy.

Easy, introduce some protectionism, import tariffs, especially from China, not invite their head honcho to lunch and put your tongue in his ear.

Not subsidise non British owned companies, whatever the threat, support British manufacturing, with grants, subsidies and all government orders of any size going to British owned and located companies.

The fundamental reason Britain is going to feel this economic crisis more than any other country is because we don't make any thing any more.

Try selling to the Germans, or the the French or the Chinese, but we will buy anybody else's crap, because its a gnats cock cheaper.

The reason we're so deep in the st is easy, we make fk all.

I wouldn't be in the BNP if I wanted to gain power, too stigmatised and too full of wronguns.

I'd probably try and get in on a UKIP ticket, throwing in some populist tax cuts and simple solutions for things like crime - death penalty, immigration - deportations; windfall tax on Shell, and so on.

I would skirt race without being explicit about it. To most people in the UK overt racism is horrible, and that's a good thing, but at the same time most of them secretly fume away about illegal immigrants and blame lots of crime on certain minorities, yet mainstream politicians won't touch the issue. I think someone could exploit that better.

The other nice thing about UKIP is you have that great big single issue to focus on and lots of people, both socialists, conservatives, greens and libertarians want to leave the EU and might vote for a supposed government of national unity who would take us out. Little do they know I'm just a nasty and bitter little right wing nut who's only there for the money and power... Muwuahahahaha
