If you could change one thing about F1 cars...?

If you could add or take away or modify one item on modern F1 cars, what would it be?

For me, I would add Titanium skid plates to the bottom of the cars or lower the existing ones.

Get rid of all the engine rules except displacement = 3.0 (someone else can work out turbo equivelants) and they only have 200 litres of fuel to last an entire weekend.

Get rid of the engine format rule - ie. allow V6's, V8's, V10s, V12s etc. with some sort of parity formula - not based on power output, but power to weight ratio.

I'd ban pit stops for fuel; what you start with is what you have to deal with.

This- IMVHO - has added benefits. You see car & driver vs car & driver. The variable of the pit crew is taken out of he equation. Also, teams will then engineer their car to suit a particular consumption of fuel. Aero will vary from team to team, and teams would use a V8, others a V10, others a V12. In varying capacities of no more than - say - 3.5 litres.

It's easy to believe that it was all better 20 years ago, but a modern GP car is still hugely spectacular. Personally, I'd make them significantly quicker. I'd ban all upper body wings and allow under body downforce only. I would prefer an open engine formula, but allow limited fuel and no pitstops; 6, 8, 10, 12 cylinders, whatever you like! I'd want about 1,200bhp to make it really interesting, but similar downforce to 2009-specification, all from ground effect. KERS would be encouraged, as I think the sport needs to be progressive, rather than regressive. One concession to the past I would like to see is steel brakes to increase braking distances and encourage a bit of overtaking.

1,200bhp in the rain around Monaco with steel brakes would sort the men from the boys. Imagine if taking Eau Rouge flat became a challenge again...

Create a box they have to fit within so controlling the maximum dimensions, a capacity or fuel allowance limit, open wheeled formula with no pits stops during a 2 hour race. No other rules needed!

I reckon they can race anything they want but they must produce one for the road that costs under £15,000. Now I accept that this would ruin Grand Prix racing but it'd make the roads a whole lot more interesting.

My change would be either go back to 08 rear wings (keep the rest of 09 cars) or allow turbo's back. 1500bhp in quali trim

Abolishion of all rules except one, no fuel stops. You're allocated a set amount of fuel and that's it. How you use that is entirely up to you. Want a 1500hp turbo monster, knock yourself out, but you've got to finish... With a set amount of fuel maybe you'd adjust the power on the fly, why not? Sounds like fun. But yeah, anything else goes; 2 foot wide slicks, uber wingage. As long as it's not deemed as being unsafe, let it pass. This is supposed to be the pinnacle of motorsport, let it be that. Not a one make series.

Was it in '86 when the fuel limit meant all the cars would have to tour round economically and it totally ruined the show. I think it was the williams that was the most efficient, but the races generally ended with the front runners stopping before the end. You want people to race, so I dont think econimcal driving is the way ahead.

Maybe front mounted machine guns, but then no one would want to drive the safety car!
