Had to go to Suffolk today for family reasons. Headed back late PM, snow settling everywhere but the A12 was clear. Got to the Dartford Bridge - snow settled on the M25 there, which was unusual enough. People actually driving sensibly (well, 99% of them), so we got onto the M20 without drama. Got to my exit, couldn't see where the sliproad started or went for snow coverage! Picked my way up the sliproad using the rumble strips as a guide. Score so far - 'Ro 1, Snow 0.

Then I got to the road leading up to where I live. Has a gradient of about 1 in 99. Pootled up at about 15mph in 3rd, going for the softly-softly approach, but half way up, computer said no! Dropped back, had another go pulling away on tickover in 2nd. Got to the top of the road by travelling sideways (not that I had a whole lot of choice in the matter, but I guess it's the start of drifting practice!!) at about 3mph for 100yards, then just kept her rolling until I hit my driveway.

And there it will be staying until this lot disappears - apart from the fact that I don't plan taking it anywhere else in this, I doubt I'd get back out anyway.

30 year old V8 Series 3 Land Rover tomorrow morning wink

Experinced simlar on A1 from Newark to Peterborough and back, snow on high ground and was settling and felt a couple of twitches. Travelling home couple of overtakes so in fast lane, then all of a sudden totally white covering, lift off from throttle and just let engine slow the car down, could not move into slow lane as their was a build up off snow between lanes and moving over could of moved me off into the barrier, glad to get the monaro home!!.

as someone who risked it on a frosty evening and went sideways into a tree when turning a corner at approx 20mph my advice would be to leave them at home unless you absolutely have to go out. My "it'll be alright" attitude cost me my no claims, a 500 quid excess and the insurers the best part of 3k to fix. That was 3 years ago, needless to say the Monaro stays on the drive if there's any chance of snow/ice now.

Monaros are brilliant in the snow.

(That's brilliant in the style of Eddie the Eagle).

If you do take your cars out lower the tyre pressures to at least 20psi, you will have a lot more traction

My Citroen C1 really struggled this AM (brakes mainly... they don't work) so I came home. Not that is matters - there are no trains either!

The ro's traction control is throttle based only so no much help in snow.

vxr8 has stability control to so it can brake individual wheels. It's actually not too bad on the snow.

In the snow, by the time you need traction control it's too late.

Just taken the Scoobie Outback with snow tyres past several struggling Discoverys trying to keep in a straight line actually I think the biggest danger today is the big 4x4 drivers who have no idea what something like a Disco will do when it loses traction
