Quick question.

What's the scoop with front number plates if there's clearly no place to mount them on the front? I've seen over half a dozen Enzo's in town - and none have had a front number plate. Can you get dispensation?

Thanks

I doubt you can get dispensation for it, but it's a £30 fixed penalty to not show a numberplate I think so they probably put up with it, on the basis that most police cars will see you from the rear where there is a plate.....

I am reasonably sure a guy on CS has had advice on this, and if there's no designated space for an official style numberplate, you don't have to carry an official style numberplate....

yeah I was thinking about that over the weekend, I guess if it starts becoming a problem you will be able to put a sticker on the front - that what some people in Germany do with Enzos and SLRS

Think that may be the only solution - It would be a real drag continually getting stopped and having to produce a exemption certificate

Got the number plate sorted - and just need to work on the remapping now......

I've ran without a front plate for 12 months and had no issue.

The only problem i've found is you can't get fuel unless you have one so i've got one on my sunvisor which can be flipped down when needed!

The OP said when you don't have anywhere to put it, i.e. Enzo, SLR etc, not, when you can't be bothered to put one on the front of your car because it looks "well gangsta" without.....rolleyes

Well gangsta!!?? Hardly!

The sytle of the car is an OE 'cleaned' look which means the bodywork is subtlely smoothed out, no front plate is just part of the look.

Also why are cars such as enzo's and slr's being designed with no place for a plate, the letter of the law is all cars should have a plate both front and back, no matter how much it costs!

They're designed to be sports cars for the world population. They're not designed to be particularly practical, and they're also not designed solely for the UK market where a front number plate is a legal requirement.

but that doesn't give them special rules not to run a plate. does it? am i missing something?

Yes, IIRC not all markets require a front and a rear numberplate, or have the same legislation as the UK......

Yes - DVLA do indeed give publicly documented legal allowance to cover cars that have no factory designated siting place for a front number plate.

It is just that 99% of cars made do have such a place.

And I wouldn't exactly call a Cayman a budget Porsche. You should try driving and owning one, they're actually quite good by all accounts.
