Hi Guys,

Doing the Le Mans trip in June as usual, I'm taking my TVR S1.5, a friend is taking a stripped out MGB and another friend is looking at a Mitsubishi GTO Twin-turbo.
Anyway, the guy in the the GTO is one of these really annoying friends, the one's that always has to be better than you. His favourite boast is that he insists he's always going to have a faster car than me. Now he's looking at buying a GTO just for Le Man.
Now personally I'm not bothered about who has the faster car, but he always makes out like its a massive deal. He didnt mention it for 4 months when I had the TVR and he only had a Nova, but when he got his new car, its back to usual.

Anyone else got a pricky mate like this? How do you deal with them?

Tell him that you're taking delivery of a new 911 GT2 soon and bankrupt him trying to get a better car in first.

If the pain of being someone's friend is greater than the pleasure, then don't spend any more time with them.

Do you really care if he always has a faster car than you? Quite frankly, if he constantly tells you "his car is better" then is he really a friend at all?

Tell him you couldn't give a monkies..... Because you are happy with your car and that is all that matters.

I'd prefer the stripped out MGB than either of your cars.

Pistonheads: Feelings matter.

Yes mate, I know exactly how you feel, I had my 106 rallye when I was 17, and all I got was "hi, just got a corsa 1.6, wanna race?" off all my "mates" who only hung out with me because of the car, they're all douchebags!

Yep absolutely! A mate of mine bought a bog standard Boxter shortly ater I bought my dream car, a mid 90's Chimaera. He loved lording his Boxster over my Chimaera, I kept smugly quiet though. The Porsche might have better build quality, reliability, handling but I'd choose my TVR over it anyday!

I did pipe up saying that if it was a decent old 911 then I might reconsider, at which point, Boxster owners tend to shut up!!

To be fair, he's a good mate but he's always been competative, well about cars anyway. He's not very good with girls and he's really good with computers but insists on working on an assembly line. Thats not a problem, I just think he's capable of more.
He got really pissed with me about 2 years back for nailing his sister....twice but we don't talk about it anymore. Ever since he's been trying to compete with cars.

Not a mate, because he's a but constantly refer to him as Tommy Two-Sh*ts.

It's a phrase I first heard about from Dibble.

Somebody will ask you why and then explain it's because if you've had a sh.. you know what, then his will be browner, longer and smellier, plus two of them.

There are a few of them who qualify for the moniker on PH frankly.

Just mention to him in passing that the French Plod, in an effort to reinstate some Entente-Cordiale with us Brits, have decided to relax all Autoroute speed limits for the month of June and that there is a prize for the fastest recorded speed. I reckon he'll bite.

Yeah had one of those since I got my first car.

Saxo 1.4, they had a Corsa Sri.

Now 5 years on I am pretty happy in my Audi RS4, mate raced ahead, got an BMW Z8 and has now sold it due to having such high insurance.

He now drives a 206...lol, my rule is never look left or right, run your own race!
