This might be the biggest let down between title and content of any current thread on here, but something is annoying me at the moment. So many girls on UK television speak like 12 year old girls. The girl who just did the sport on BBC News is a classic example. Grow up.

Natashe Kaplinski speaks properly. Why can't others?

Example? (of a news reader, not a 12y/o...)

Is it that upward American inflection?

I have a friend who is a mother of two and 36 odd years old, but her voice, ah, if you phone up, you ask can you speak to her thinking it's her 4 year old daughter... Cracking voice (she is also quite short, maybe that's why...)

I'd far sooner a husky Marriella Frostrum type voice than a high pitched shriek.

I've also noticed that many are beginning to speak like the girl from Band Camp!!!!

On the BBC this morning was some bint talking to hedgehogs, the prickly pigs could speak English better.

It's all about dumbing down and getting regional accents in. There's nothing wrong with regional accents but people seem to think that 'Retard' is a region in England.

Having said that, it might be somewhere in Yorkshire. biggrin

I can't find an example now, I'll find the name of one and post a link up at some point. My anger has subsided a bit just by sharing this problem.

Radio 1 newsbeat does appear to be aimed at children and people with an IQ smaller than their shoe size.

the problem is they sound far more stupid even than that! they sound as though they've been asked to present to a bunch of five year olds in the most patronising manner possible. they stress words that make sentences sound odd and generally make me wonder how the feck they got the job in the first place. how do you apply? i'd walk it with that competition.

i can't stress it strongly enough how they piss me off. coupled with moyles/mills i am glad i no longer listen to that guff.
