Fridge Freezer problem

Hoping there's an engineer out there who can advise. I have a 5 year old Siemens Fridge Freezer, just out of guarantee. The freezer is now going onto defrost every day. The temp of the fridge is also unstable and goes from +4 - +10 every day or so. My question is should I just toss it out and buy a new one or is this likely to be something a service engineer can quickly fix at a reasonable cost. Any help gratefully received.
Put all your frozen stuff out in the snow.
Freezers are pretty expensive to repair, I would advise buying a new one but you can always ring up a kitchen appliance wholesaler and talk to him about parts prices. Some will let you trade your old one in...

Ex refrigeration engineer here, used to do the more industrial cold store stuff than domestic though, but the principals are the same
What type of thermostat/controller does it have? is it a digital display or the old dial type?
Could be one of three things, Knackerd stat/temp probe, Usually fixable at a semi reasonable cost.
Overheating compressor making the whole system short cycle, if so its beyond economical repair.
Short on refrigerant gas, a good sign of this is a gurgling noise, also beyond economical repair.
The trouble with domestic freezers is once you've called out an engineer, paid the call out fee, paid for a minimum hours labor then the parts to fix it you could probably pay for a new one.
