This was first posted as a reply to another topic, Why so snotty about TAGs? but received no reply to the last bit so, help please.

I have recently sent a Tag Heuer Executive Chrono for a service and repair, basically it just kept stopping. They have sent it back saying they cannot do anything with it as it is an old model and they can no longer get parts, the watch is at the most, about 28 years old but reasonably rare ( I haven't seen another in England).

I phoned them and was a bit surprised when they told me that they hadn't even opened it up, saying they would not want to be held responsible. I am afraid that I don't get it. I was also told that they would even have problems with watches more than ten years old!!!

At the same time I sent a 1976 Seiko Chrono for a good service, they tell me that due to the age it has to go to their specialist dept but, they can service/repair it at £180.00 I have had this watch since new so I said yes. What they also said was that if I thought it too uneconomical to repair they would offer me a discount on a new model. What a difference, a proper service!!

Back to the Tag, does anyone know where I might be able to get this one serviced/repaired or do I just throw it away!!!

You could try the guy that runs Heuerboy. He deals in vintage Heuers but may be able to help. You can contact through his site:

www.heuerboy.com

I have bought stuff though the site with no problems etc.

vinnie_p - Try watchdoctors in Tring. I sent my old Tag there some time ago when it stopped (about three years ago). It was not a battery issue. Incidentally, my Tag is about 18 years old. They did a fantastic job. They have parts for most Swiss watches. Give them a call, I am certain they will be able to help you out.

The Tag is still going strong today smile

Thats shocking from Tag, but doesnt suprise me. I bought a Monaco that had the face changed for one in a different colour for a customer. It was changed from black to blue but the model wasnt available in blue during that year of manufacture so a client had ordered a special order through Tag. But he cancelled it and i bought it from Ernest Jones brand new not knowing it was a one off, I didnt pay a premium and I wasnt told it was a custom job.

Sent it off for a service a few years later and it was sent back to me saying they dont service watches with historys they cant trace. Meaning the serial number shows it up as a fake, the serial number throws up a black watch but this one was blue. I had to send them my receipt and paperwork along with a covering letter saying id bought it in good faith from Ernest Jones, after a month they worked out what they had done, never said sorry, just explained what happened and it was tough crap. There attitude stank!!

My grandad was a SGT Major in the paras and when he got his OBE for services to his country the Sultan of Bahrain had a number of custom rolexes made to say thank you to the officers who had served for him, my grandad got 1 of 12 made and for the price of a standard service Rolex service they have parts custom made to repair the watch and wrote him a letter saying it was an honour to work on the watch - proper arse licking lol but top notch service. Tag could learn a thing or two.

Hi all

I'm new to this part of the Forums. But i have something Positive to say about
Tag Heuer.I bought a Tag Heuer GMT back in 1994 .Had it serviced regularly,(Battery ,Pressure test etc).Anyway in 2002 sent it away for a battery change,i think it was somewhere in Manchester. The watch came back to my local Jewellers with a note saying they couldn't repair it because the parts were
unavailable.confused.So to cut a long story short, wrote to Tag in Switzerland ,got a loverly Letter back saying they would part finance a replacement.Fast foward to 2008 and they still honoured the original offer.I am now a proud owner of a Tag Heuer Formula 1 Alarm watch.Mind you they wouldn't let me keep the old one.cry

ETA Oh! Thanks THclap

Wow just caught up with this thread.

I had an original 2000 from '97 which stopped working in July. Took it to Ernest Jones who sent it away for repair. They phoned me a month later to say they had sent it to the wrong place and would hope to have it back soon so they could send it on elsewhere. They then didn't contact me again and I had to chase them up. Got it back finally in Dec '08. Put it in the safe and got it out two weeks later to find it not working. Took it straight back to Ernest Jones who couldn't find the repair on their system so offered to charge me again for the repair - that was nice of them! Finally found the receipt last week but have been told that they may not be able to repair it.

Shocking that they may not be able to keep a 12yr old watch working!

My watch did go to Watch Doctors who at least had a look at it but no joy, lack of parts. They are sending it back now. I have one more watch repair place to try, the name escapes me at the moment but if anybody out there can help, please do so. The next step is smash
