is there some sort of proper socio-political technical term for it ?
Some snow falls, some people get caught in it, some don't, some might catch a cold, some might get stuck on a road in a motor car, another person might spend all day in a brothel, another person might not be able to mow his lawn and hell.. someone may even die
now though, we have to suffer endless debates about a new 2010 budget for snow ploughs, new guidelines for vehicles and personal snow chains, endless criticism of thsi and that, repeated comparisons to Antartica and Greenland where apparently they are slightly better geared up for it

t happens, let it be what it is rather than trying to coax it into some sort of plastic brave-new-worldesque sterile contained nightmare. It seems that unless there are ZERO road deaths, ZERO hassle because of any adverse weather conditions, ZERO cases of lung cancer, ZERO cases of any ailment that can't be cured with stem cells etc etc.. then we have somehow all failed as a race and we can expect a non stop outrage from people moaning and complaining about how things could and should be better. Sometimes I just long for a breath of fresh air, a real world, where stuff 'just happens' and real moments are allowed to cascade one after the other without being imprisoned by a bible full of legislation, rules, guidelines and friggin Nectar cards.

^Problem is...'Common Sense' seems to be lacking nowadays.
This government seems to think it has the answer to everyone's problems. We are all treated like 5 year old kids who can't look after themselves...so we need the nanny state to do it for us.
They are sooo far detached from public opinion its unreal!
But tbh......I don't see the Tories acting any different. There's too much money in it for them.

So glad to hear it. We will never cure all known diseases. Accidents will always happen, not everything is an 'incident'. People will grow old. Volcanoes will erupt, people will die at sea, there will be people too poor to eat, people rich enough to corrupt others.
FFS, yes we need to try to advance scientific knowledge, we need to try to mitigate unacceptable risks but we also need to accept that there are somethings which we can't be expected to control. In this country one of those things is that we need to accept that for, say, 10 days in every 5 years there might be a bit of bother travelling about due to snow. There is no need to spend X million. Just chuffing live with it.

It makes me feel very sad indeed that the majority of the population are lazy, whining idiots. But who is to the blame? Because that's another thing somebody MUST be to blame. The government? The weather? The EU?
I don't think it's anyones fault but our own. When you look back through the history books that chart the progress of the British Empire, the industrial revolution and the people who built it, it makes you wonder where the hell it all went.
But I suppose I'm equally to blame, I'm so ashamed to be British that when I'm abroad I'd rather pretend I'm German. Like I said very sad indeed.
