Election fixing (Gerrymandering) in the UK
Discussion
I can vaguely remember someone telling me that the electoral boundaries had been changed to favour one party or another some 30 years ago, but this article made me sit up and take notice.

Is it really this blatant? How can we have a system that means one of the two main parties maintains a majority even if they poll only three quarters of the votes of the current opposition?

Yup. However, it is set to change very soon iirc, and before the next General Election. I believe that it will be pushed much more into the Tories favour, and I think CMD has pledged to reduce the number of MPs in the following Parliament, which will largely be Labour inner cities. So again, leveling the playing field. You may even see some change in the Scottish constituencies as well as Scotland now has its own Parliament, so it doesn't need quite so much Westminster representation. (Watch for CMD playing that card).Gassing Station | The Pie & Piston Archive | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
