So far I have never been defeated by any curry....and my quest for the ultimate curry continues. Looking on the net, the Rupali in Newcastle claims to have, or at least had the worlds hottest curry...

So has anyone on here managed to defeat this?

Or has anyone on here been defeated and yet would normally eat a Phall whilst others are claiming their Kormas are way too hot??

I fancy taking the challenge, but its an 11 hour round trip from my house...so not exactly popping to your local curry house!

I remember reading a letter in Viz about a guy who had a curry at the Rupali, Bigg Market, Newcastle and when he farted afterwards his guts shot out his arse. It went something along the lines of "they had to get the fire brigade to hose down his steaming guts for an hour before pushing them back in again".

No, never been.

I've not been for about 5 years, Lord Harpole is dead now, i'm not sure if the Rupali is even still on the go.

The Curry Hell must not be taken with Lager. Just a tip. wink

Hungry now.

I'd like to know what they put into Curry Hell - whether it is just a) a natural concoction of herbs, spices and strong peppers, b) the addition one or more of the well known commercially distilled capsaicin preparations or c) cheap bleach.

I'd guess (b), going on (c).

OP, it's worth the 11 hour drive. Just book into the Travelodge. I would make sure it's still open though.

BTW - Go midweek, the Bigg Market is a bit wild at the weekend.

The menu is dated Dec 08...so I guess it is still going

Well there seems to be a number of people who ate it and didnt pass out on the floor...so I guess it could be worth a punt!

At least you get the curry for free if you succeed, shame about the petrol cost....but I guess the certificate makes up for that!

Don't, just don't!!!!!!
I had a teaspoonful once and was in agony for hours! The owner told me that about 500 people had actually ordered the "curry hell" and only 2 had finished it!

I did a contract up in Newcastle quite a few years ago & the three contractors plus several of the single locals started a curry club. It was someones birthday so we decided to do a proper curry! Someone suggested the Rupali & some bright spark then said "Jim normally eats a Vindaloo, maybe he can try a Curry challenge" So we rolled up & I ate around 1/2 of it, then realised I was in digs over in North Shields & I had to get there & it was a shared khazi, so at that point I called it a day. Several dipped the prongs of forks in it to taste & regretted it! I didn't fare too bad that night or the next morning, but I was on for in those days, eating at least a vindaloo a week. They did ask me if the challenge was to be pork or chicken & I asked for chicken, to be honest it could have been horse & I wouldn't have known the difference. biggrin

I used to go to the Rupali a lot. Owned by an old chap called Latif I seem to recall. I thought it was excellent, far better than doing the Chinese stuff down Stowell Street.

I even took out a membership card which entitled me to a discount and special treatment.
