In these snow-ridden times I've found myself using my feet more than trains/buses etc to get into the centre of London.
On Monday morning I walked 7 miles, last night a further 4. This morning maybe 3 miles.

But in the office today I hear lots of whinging about having to walk 30 minutes or 'over a mile'. Is this serious? Can people not walk any further than that?

I can't walk over a mile in this country, if I was in a foregin country on holiday then sure .... confused I don't actually know why this is the case for me.

Id probably walk about 1.5 hours which is probably what it would take me if I had to do it. But then, if I dont turn up I dont get paid.

Public sector no more than 300 meters
Private sector what ever it takes (if you want to keep your job and have any chance of a pay rise)

Hope that helps

I walked from canary wharf back to chiswick the day of the London bombings. It was a very enjoyable stroll.

I walk to and from work every day. 20 minutes each way. Before my employer relocated it was a three mile trip which I usually did in the car, but because the route was so hilly I'd walk it if it snowed a lot. This would take about 50 minutes. I'd probably draw the line at about an hour purely because it would become a false economy to allow so much of my life to be consumed by commuting when I'm on such a sh*t wage. Giving up more of my life would have to be met by extra compensation.

I walked this morning

3.5 miles

No snow here either, so wasn't like it was a time saving exercise.

I stick my iPod on, and enjoy having a butchers at all the things you miss when driving.

I'll cycle home, probably the long way....5 miles...

But then I'm not a fat lazy bd, who'd get out of breath climbing a flight of stairs, and who only climbs those stairs because there's a cafe on the next floor and no lift.

Also, as I don't drive every day, when I do drive, I can enjoy it more, as it's because I want to, not through necessity.

As you were.

used to walk 3 miles to school and then 3 miles home. then did 32 miles on the bike to work and back each day. Now it's a 152 mile round trip in the car!

No. If you hold a British passport issued after 1979 you are legally obliged to be a spineless whinging little tool who has never seen any real hardship and will fold and cry on the floor at the slightest thought of having to do some work. You are also legally obliged to expect to be paid 10 times more than you are worth and have no comprehension that money that you borrow to purchase unneeded tat must be repaid. biggrin

This is the real reason why they banned handguns in the UK, as we would have shot them all by now for the sake of humanity. wink
