Surely an oxymoron?!

I do wonder how a backward country under sanctions can build a rocket without outside help!

Given that satellites have been launched for the last 40 years, I really don't think that the technology is that advanced, or that Iean is that backward.

Because they live in the same way as they did 1,000 years ago, only with weapons.

40 years?
Nearly 52 years actually.

I'm confused. Do you mean that 1000 years ago they didn't have weapons? Or that 1000 years ago they had cars and mobile phones?

I'd hazard a guess that 1,000 years ago they were more advanced then we were.

Quite possibly. But I don't see the UK having a feudal revolution and going back to the days of King Harold, then declaring war on everybody that didn't believe in pagan gods.

Besides, how much of the technology in that rocket/satellite was designed in Iran and how much was bought in from elsewhere?

It all just reminds me of this south park episode where Saddam Hussein is suspected of building a weapons factory disguised as a cookie factory. In the background is a industrial plant with cookie logo's all over it

God - 'Saddam, we hear you're building chemical weapons factory around here'
Saddam - 'Hey guy, that's ridiculous, I'm just running a cookie factory'
God - 'Well this cookie factory looks a lot like a chemical weapons plant'
Saddam - 'Hey, if I'd built a chemical weapons factory I wouldn't make it look like a chemical weapons factory, would I? I'd make it look like something else, like a cookie factory or some st'
God - 'Hmmm, alright then'

your levels of ignorance are truly stunning.

Well done, the official 'Tuesday fkwit' award to be shared by both of you. You must be so proud.

I don't think it was a "feudal" revolution. Their society is not the same as European society was in the Middle Ages. It may not be to our liking, but most Iranians seem to prefer it to what they had before. Also, Iran has quite a few scientific and academic institutions so is not "anti-science" in the way many Christian fundamentalists can sometimes be.

I have no doubt they have had some assistance in their programmes but doesn't most countries?

So you think that a country ruled by the law of religon isn't backward?

Your posturing is simply stunning.

I don't care one way or another if they have a satellite...

But the statement above is just about the most narrow minded statement I have read on here! I assume, Simpo, you have been there in order to make that statement? I have, and what you have written is wrong and betrays your utter ignorance.

I've changed my mind - good on the Iranians!!! wink And of course they have had help, sit on the Iranian border crossing with Turkey and see just how many foreign trucks go in and out...

I certainly don't think that a society that lives in a secular, morally vacuous state is particularly advanced for that matter.
