I know the best way to do it healthily is to cut down, exercise more, lose weight steadily etc....and this will lead to long term results, but just out of interest, what is the single quickest way of losing weight apart from illness in the very short term, say a week? Is it to just not eat at, or to eat certain things but exercise? I'm debating this with a friend at the moment, as it would seem logical the quickest way would be to not eat anything at all if possible, but do you need a certain amount to keep your metabolism going?

Don't stop eating for gods sake that way lies insanity!

If you want a quick solution cut all alcohol and fizzy drinks out, head to your local gym for a fast swim and I mean fast; paddling up and down won't help then hit the sauna and the steam room on alternate days.

If you can afford it go for a mud wrap...........you'll feel stupid but for someone like me that drinks and therefore carries a fair amount of excess water it works a treat!

Apparently cabbage soup works wonders, and of course cerery consumes more calories than you get from it. I wouldn't eat either of them once though!

Wouldn't that just go back on as soon as you drunk something afterwards?

atkins diet - followed VERY strictly will shed the pounds quickest - you'll hate it, you'll stink, you'll feel like puking, but its very very effective during its first week to fortnight

but you've got to do it properly - strictly under 20g of carbs a day, zero alcohol, zero caffeine, zero fizzy drinks - basically meat, eggs and water

If you eat nothing at all your body can go into starvation mode and store all fats instead of using them so you can put on weight. Look how jockies do it wink

Depends on various factors like how much excercise you are taking, temperature, age, what you are drinking etc. but for most people at least one month and often up to two months.

No no I'm not going to do it! I just want to know how for the average person! I saw that thing on the worlds fattest man or whatever it was, and apparently he lived off his fat for over a year?!

If you are serious you could loose 10 - 12kg in a week but you'd be pretty close to deaths door. Simple, high protein diet (think low carbs), put a load of kit in a rucksack and walk 12 hours a day, every day. Alternatively you could ride 4-5 hours on a bike per day. I did a training camp in Majorca on the bike, ate non stop and still lost 6kg.

Eat less, exercise more.

cut your diet to 1250cals a day. Take up swimming and running and go to the gym at least three times a week.

I lost 8 pounds in my first week on Slimming World.

Obviously it evens out as the weeks go by and you end up loosing 2 - 3 a week. But the first week is always a big loss. If followed strictly, but to be fair its dead easy and you can eat as much as you like (of certain items)

i've lost half a stone in just over a week, though i've just started so this is the easy bit.

have been eating breakfast which i never used to - a little muesli with semi skimmed milk, and making lunch my main meal of the day - usually a salad of some description. i've got cereal bars and fruit on my desk if i need a snack, and my eveing meal is smaller than i'm used to and can be anything from some more muesli with creme fraiche & fruit to a salmon stir fry with lots of veg. i've stopped drinking and have also cut out caffeine save for the odd cup [used to be 7-8 a day easily]

portion control is key, eat little and often. i used to eat one meal a day and snack at work and never felt hungry. mow i'm eating properly and can time 12pm by my stomach starting to growl.

have been jogging 5 miles every other night and pushups/situps on those inbetween.

its not been long but i already feel better, though i'm feeling [nay, smelling!] the effects of all that extra fibre and veg!

in short, diet & exercise, but then you already knew that!

Why am I not surprised that people don't believe this isn't for me specifically! Its fair enough I suppose, I wouldn't if somebody else had started it! But I'm really talking not just for me, but for the average human - so it seems exercise until you drop and eat only meat is the way..... but wouldnt you get the same weightloss if you literally ate nothing for a week and still somehow managed to exercise? Would excercise even have that quick an effect?

You would make yourself rather ill!

Why would you want to do that to yourself?
