Contracting on military bases, etc

A friend of mine does this in Afghanistan for an engineering firm and makes quite a bit of money.

Does anyone know if contracts are available in IT on said bases?

I need to do alot of reading, and quizzing but my friend is away on holiday for a week and i'm eager to find out more.

Anyone done/do this, or can anyone suggest any other IT contracts that reward financially due to location/risks envolved.
