Guys i've never had the pleasure of driving an M-sport.Allways thought the se was "bad enough"hard ride wise.Seem to remember though people saying that the bilstein?suspension on the M-sport actually makes for a nicer ride in the uk.Any thoughts?

Just remember some posters talking about bilstein suspension parts on m-sport versions of BMWS.Not the m3 or m5s of this world but M-sports ie 535d m-sports as opposed to se.

dibbly ,i always thought 130i were all M-sport,you live and learn. My 120d auto EFF DYN ,well reminds me of what life must be like driving a tonka toy. It has to be the runflats. You never feel planted like your skimming the top of the road .Not good going around roundabouts. My ideal car would be the new 242bhp 3ltr diesel ,but im not going BMW again with runflats.

Exactly how I felt about my 120D M Sport, skimming over the top etc, didn't inspire confidence. Changed to Continental Sportcontact2s and ride and grip were vastly improved.

Hi Mate - yes there are a very few 130se out there. I agree about the runflats - the traction and ride are both very poor. I believe the more recent models are a lot better though so I am sticking with BMW - 330 next for me biggrin

I have a 2007 123d, the ride quality is very good indeed in M Sport form. The latest generation of run flats are a big improvement. My Z4 crashed and banged on run flats, in fact I'd almost of classed it as dangerous.

BMW have just announced that they're not putting the RFTs on as standard any more on most 1-series; it becomes a cost-option. It remains as standard on the 123d and 135i only.

Sorry - drifting off topic here ... but anybody got a new-ish 330i MSport ? What is your opinion of the ride ? (I have put down a deposit on one - with no test drive nuts)

I have a new (3 weeks old) 330i M sport coupe on 19" wheels (with runflats). Covered 1500 miles - the ride is a bit crashy on deep potholes or sunken manhole covers but fine 99% of the time. And those wheels do look good..... wink

I guess its subjective depending on what car you've come from previously, I've also got an '07 123d and on the (Bridgestone RE050) runflats I'd still describe it as fairly harsh, although certainly not dangerous. Putting it on regular tyres has improved it significantly, now irons out bumps and lumps as well as my old Leon Cupra with more wheel control from the suspension when you hit a pot hole, so it doesn't feel like the car's just cracked in two.

I own a 330Cd MSport. I've not driven the SE version of the same car. I would say however that the M-Sport is way too hard for everyday driving. Especially as our roads network seems to be so poorly maintained and getting worse, anything but a motorway is uncomfortable. I run Michelin Pilot Sport X runflats all round.

But don't forget that everyone and his dog who has an SE, will have bought Eibach springs last year after reading how cheap they were on PH !

Thanks Dave. I agree the 19's are lovely thumbup but the one I'm picking up shortly (all being well) has the humble 18's so should presumably ride a little bit more softly. Time will tell !

Just curious, but why would you order a new car without even having driven one? How do you know you won't hate it, or have to live with backache because the seats don't suit you, etc? I'd point blank refuse to order a car from a dealer that couldn't lend me one for a minimum of a few hours.

That may be accepted thinking but :

Gizlaroc who seems to know what he's on about said:
SE - Comes with alright seats, but nothing more than that.
Boge/Sachs struts and springs, very crashy on UK roads.

Sport - comes with the sport seats which are the best seats I have had in any car, beating all the Recaro seats in S4's etc. and makes the 5 series and even the 7 series seats seem crap.
It has the same struts and shorter springs, probably as bad as it gets for ride comfort.

M-Sport - This gains the superb Bilstein dampers and Eibach springs, the ride is alot more comfortable compared with the above cars, the set up soaks up the poor UK roads and makes the extra worth it alone.
Which would imply that the MSport suspension bits are superior ?
