What is it with Northerners?
Discussion
Just had some divvy from Rothbury Council (wherever that may be) saying that they were coping far better with the bad weather we are having because they are "not southerners". It could just be the fact that you have plainly had NO SNOW you cock.
There was a similar thing on the news yesterday with someone from Leicester Council, saying how they have the right attitude and just "get on with it".
I was in Leicester yesterday and I can safely say that they have had 10% of the snow that we have had in South London.
Get over yourselves!
Before we start I know Leicester isn't oop norf.

They may be good at digging, I'll give them that. So are dogs, and neither are fussed about eating poo.

southerners are clearly superior due to the fact that they know absolutely everything and are NEVER wrong, ever
and we all live in back to back terraced houses and eat hovis all day and all our kids have lice and our women play rugby and wash in a tin bath and poo at the bottom of the yard
oh and coronation street is true!

maybe that is not true and I am not comparing the same kind of places south to north.
i just encounter a lot of stupid people when i go to the "outside world" (normally spend my time in a paralell universe with minimal outside world interactions)

I am sure I could find "divvies" from the South too. There was a similar thing on the news yesterday with someone from Leicester Council, saying how they have the right attitude and just "get on with it".

Surely by lumping all "Northerners" as one you have just made yourself out as a "divvy"

Without doubt there are a lot of uneducated heathens in the North, but you'll find just as many in the South. Stupidity and laziness isn't confined to just one area of the country.i just encounter a lot of stupid people when i go to the "outside world" (normally spend my time in a paralell universe with minimal outside world interactions)

We do get a lot more snow further north and, very often, and it doesn't make the national news, and we just get on with life. There are villages in the hills, like my own, which even regionally receive far higher snowfall and I think the comments are wry amusement at the fuss a light dusting has caused to our country.
IIRC, Rothbury is in Northumberland and was also one of the villages flooded out last year. Which brings me to another vast, sweeping generalisation to throw into the north-south discussion is that it is my experience that southerners have a far poorer, London centric grasp of UK geography than those further north.
IMHO the popularity of living in the south is, for the many without sufficient funds to enjoy the full benefits, based on a similar 'illusion' to the lure of the package holiday. In reality, you're crowded, cheek-by-jowl (they'd pack you up each other's arses to save space, if they were allowed) into an environment that never quite delivers what it promises - happiness. But say it questly, I like the (relatively) empty midlands & north as they are.

I saw the interview on BBC this morning too, was surprised in todays PC state he got away with saying what he did... it did make me smile though!
As for down south you are welcome to keep everything you think is so great great down there.
When I pop down to visit friends in London I am always glad to be heading back home after a few days to open countryside, polite friendly locals, fresh air, clean streets and being able to walk home from the pub without the risk of being shot, stabbed, raped or mugged!

That's true but haven't many of the more educated Northerners had to relocate south to get the better jobs/weather/girls etc?I was speaking to a big employer based in the North East and he told me they have problems getting the right people due to the brain drain down south.
I don't think Northerners are actually born thick it's just that most of the intelligent ones have to move away after School, leaving only the no hopers. I read recently that Yorkshire was in fact the worst area with a high percentage of simpletons.
