Subaru Legacy 137BHP
Discussion
Hi,
I'm thinking of buying an 04 Model Sports tourer 2.0i, 54k on the clock, FSH etc.. looks in great nick. However i'm told that its pretty gutless? As a young driver and current owner of a Focus 1.4CL and sometimes driver of my mums 1.6 Focus Zetec, how will this compare? I can't really afford to insure a higher spec model
(already going to pay 1400 TPFT!) I need a big car as i transport alot of stuff for my brothers company (sports/fitness related) and need space for lots of sports gear. Had a wee test drive but could'nt really rag it, just need something with space yet some poke, not F1 speed but you know what i mean
Thanks!
Jason

I have a 56 plate 2 litre Legacy Sports Tourer. I think to say its gutless would be a little unfair but its not a rocketship by any stroke. Having said that, I've found it fast enough and certainly if one of your main criteria is load lugging then it scores pretty well in that department. Boot capacity is probably greater in the current gen Mondeo or Volvo V70 but I doubt they drive as well.

They're gutless compared to the turbo versions
but in a similar ballpark to most other 2.0 family-size cars around.
I always find it a real pisser that the current gen turbo Legacys have not been officially available in the UK. There was a rather tasty special edition twin-scroll turbo Legacy at Litchfield imports a while back. Now that Subaru are ditching the 3 litre flat 6, hopefully they might stick the WRX engine in there and partially redeem themselves.

I think they're great cars - cue 'feels like it's on rails' cliches. Only driven one but it felt quicker than the figures say. Can be thirsty. Different stage in my life I'd have loved one.I'm thinking of buying an 04 Model Sports tourer 2.0i, 54k on the clock, FSH etc.. looks in great nick. However i'm told that its pretty gutless? My last NA was a '97 JDM TS-R, 155bhp quad-cam and the best fuel economy I got from that was about 38mpg over a tank.
I don't have the lightest foot in the world though
