I am hoping to purchase a new car soon and the new shape XK8 is on my shortlist. What is a good price for the oldest of these. I have taken a look around auto trader and locals, and with the credit crunch biting, I am wondering if the early new-ones will drop any further in price? Anybody got any thoughts on this situation and how prices of luxury motors may be affected in the next 2-10 months?

Who knows is the answer. But the biggest thing to affect residuals of these new XK's are the imminent launch of the 5.0ltr Jaguar V8. It will either make the 4.2ltr V8 powered XK's less desirable in the longer term (a year plus down the line once used examples start appearing) or more likely in the short term, more 4.2ltr XK's will start to appear as those owners upgrade, hence further lowering used prices of these cars?

Also time of year has a lot to do with it. Wait until end of March when the new plate changes or August/December is a good time to buy as it is normally the quietest time of year for dealerships.

As I have said beofre, when ytou can afford the exact car you want to drive, buy it, enjoy and forget about the money. All cars lose money! smile

Thanks for that. I think the new shape is just out of my reach (not keen on the old shape rear end) and was hoping it would slowly creep towards my budget. I didn't know aboot the 5L one, so hopefully that and the new reg will help the oilders models come down a bit.

I wasn't aware about the 5.0L V8 either, that'll be a brute.
