Looks like Aviva could be going the same way of AIG.

Slightly mis reading the story there fella.
Aviva has cancelled the payout as market conditions now make the payment unfair . They have a duty to take into account the effect on shareholders and policyholders. Thats why the policyholders advocate is involved.

I dont think it means that Avvia is in trouble per se, simply that the offer they made last year has now become untenable due to market forces. (Ie the collapse in the value of investments backing these policies.)

There has been rumours for a few weeks that Aviva is going to post dreadful results and are about to significantly raise commercial insurance rates

The PRU announced last year that they were cancelling their reattribution of orphaned funds, so no great surprise.

Would probably still be solvent if they hadn't spunked millions hiring Bruce Willis and Thomas the Tank Engine on their new ads to convince us Ayviva Carumba! is a better name for a sober insurance company than NU. Don't they ever learn? We don't like new names for old products. We want Marathons, not Snickers, Jif not Cif and you can p!ss right off if you think I'm buying Starburst when I want to buy Opal Fruits! grumpy
