I know its been done many times and I have looked at previous threads before you all bombard me.
My plan is to buy the brighter lights kit from Mod-Wise and replace the bulbs with 50% brighter ones. I don't want to change the original look of the car.
I have looked at the Autoexpress report on bulbs but how old is it? Surely, there are better units available today? If so, where can I get them?
Has anyone done this and was there any signifiucant improvement?
Is there any alternative other than the upgrade to Speed 6 style or the twin light conversion, none of which I like.

I ran 100W bulbs with the standard wiring for a while, without melting anything. Only problem was that the voltage drop in the standard wiring caused the bulbs to run under-voltage (nearer 12V than 13.8V), and they consequently blew every 3 months or so 
After upgrading the wiring, installing new relays, etc, I carried on running the 100W bulbs. The result was much brighter lights, but the bulbs still blew every 6 months, probably due to the massive heat build up.
Finally I'm running the "50% brighter" Philips 55W bulbs from powerbulbs.com. They're not visibly any dimmer than the conventional 100W bulbs, but have lasted over a year, and the light is a bit whiter.
After much faffing around, I'd definitely recommend the Modwise kit and brighter 55W bulbs. If the kit's anything like the Modwise remote boot opener it will be beautifully made and a doddle to fit.

Well I disagree. We've had our Griff 2 months now, and to be fair, either of our motorbikes has better headlights on dip beam. And thats one light as against 2 on the Griff. Main beams' fine, but two candles would give out more light on dip. Thats the problem.

. I'll take a look.I had a Yammie R6 for a while and I am sure that the headlight used to blind people in the middle of the day - was always getting cars flash me and I am sure they weren't just flirting.
The Griff is truly like two "candles in the wind" - to misquote from Reg Dwight - that, combined with the ability and desire to travel at "progressive" velocity makes for an "exciting" journey in my my night-driving book!
Looking to do something this year, any ideas well welcome!

The lights maybe OK if you are only using the car at weekends and during the daytime but ours is used by the bread knife as her only car. Some of you may have noticed it is getting dark now especially after around 15:30.
What are the bulb types - H1, H4 or H7, as I can't find anything other than the wattage in the Bible. We have a Griff 500 (1997).
I don't have the luxury of being able to take the bulb out and then wait for the replacement to arrive.

Hello fella's. I have got tinted lens covers on my Griff which doesn't exactly help the night time driving experience so I asked Peninsula to upgrade the head lamp and spotlight bulbs to the brighter Xenon type which cost about £32 for four.
I believe so. The main beam is fine so I assume I really only need to replace the dipped beam on each side, ie 2 bulbs in total as I will then have 2 spares for the main beams.
I've checked out powerbulbs.com and the H1's are £19.50 a pair.
I also want to replace the indicator (front and repeater) with clear lenses, as the car is pearl white, and came across the Philips Silver Vision (amber when lit and mirrored when off so you can't see the orange glow from the outside as with amber bulbs) on the powerbulbs site. They are £14.75 per pair. Are these a direct replacement for the front indicator bulbs?

Yes, been there, done that. You can also remove the amber filter on the rear lights (darkened lenses only) and have the same effect there.
