US refuse to provide torture information
Discussion
So, British citizen captured in Pakistan and claims he was flown around the world and tortured before ending up in Guantanamo. Court case looks into it and into the evidence obtained from him. Foreign secretary says it can't be published. Apparently, it has emerged, becasue the US have threatened to withdraw shared intelligence if information about what they've been upto gets out.
Right. So bearing in mind, the US can happily extradite any British citizen and it won't be blocked by our Government, is anyone concerned? I know there's an argument of you should only worry if you're upto no good, but seems to me that once they've got you, you've got no hope of any escape, or support from the UK. Scary. Found myself pondering who the real terrorists are...

The foreign secretary doesn't want the info' released because probably we've either been involved all along or, we've at least known what the U.S. was up to. Either way our governments hands are not as clean as they should be.
If not he should call their bluff & release the information any way. The U.S. needs our intelligence as much as we need theirs. I honestly think it's about time we put our foot down with the U.S. & stopped saying "how high" when they say "jump".

unrealistic and preferable to saying 'Where' when they say "Incoming"...Given the recent and not so recent history of Spackerstanis being involved in all flavours of global terrorism, I for one am not really bothered that his human rights have been trampled on after vising that land for reasons that he quite frankly cannot plausibly explain. From the BBC story:
According to Mr Mohamed, he wanted to kick a drug habit and get away from familiar haunts in London.
He says that he also wanted to see whether Taleban-run Afghanistan was a good Islamic country - a path followed by other young Muslim men who were fascinated by events in that war-torn region.

let's ship the human rights people to Helman for a bit, that might just change their perspective a little...

Or let's not. Why are we in Helmand anyway? They didn't even bother bombing Britain until 2005, well after we were hanging on Americas coat tails in Iraq and Afghanistan. If he has done something wrong, then try him in court, prove it, and punish him accordingly. The whole point of the free society we're supposedly trying to protect is that we don't go and lock people up and torture them for no good reason.
Even if it is supposedly for security, I don't trust our government (or any other) with that sort of power. I'd rather take my chances with all the terrorists who are supposedly out to get us, myself.
