I was watching a program about it the other day, and it got me thinking. I already donate blood on a regular basis, but theres nothing stopping me donating bone marrow too. Next time I go to give blood, i'm certainly going to enquire about it and more than likely register.
Just curious if any of you guys are on it? Have you ever been called upon to donate? How do they do it?

All you need to know is there.
I'm on the register but haven't been matched. I'd urge anyone to consider being on it.

I used to donate blood regularly in the UK, even applied for plasmapheresis but my plasma was no good!
Bone marrow donation is exceptionally painful, they can extract from the hip, thigh, shoulder several times to pull enough marrow to make it worthwhile. Really depends on how good a match you are. I've thought about it myself since I would appear to never get sick and have a reasonably healthy lifestyle.
Good on you for doing something so noble

do you get anything for giving blood? or is it just purely for helping someone out when they need it?
and do they do anything like test wise before they take any serious amount? I've always wanted to know what blood type I am.
and whats the AB negative or A positive stuff allabout ( yes I dont really know much about blood catogarys)

Donating bone marrow is painful but no half of what the reciever is going through. Its that bit more satisfing than giving blood because you meet the reciever which you don't get with blood.

They do a test to see if you have enough iron i think and thats if from what i can remember when i first donated, they then test your blood and tell you what blood type etc you are.
Ive been on the donor registier for a year or 2 but have never been called up - am kinda nervous just incase i do because its painful apparently. But i doubt that i would be able to turn it down if i got the call.
