I do hope that both sides in this sorry mess blame the government for inacting misconceived and insufficiently well thought out legislation.

I wonder how much money both all parties have wasted on this; ludicrous!

It will be interesting to see what other great New Labour initiatives and ideas unravel over the coming years.

The anti-hunt lobby were interviewed yesterday and said that they expected more prosecutions as the ruling had removed some of the vagueness in the law.

A that fuss and they failed to define 'hunting' with adequate clarity.

Sheesh.

Of course, in the minds of those who demanded the ban, 'hunting' was defined with crystal clarity - something along the lines of 'riding a horse round the countyside in a red coat and having more money than me'...

That's a load of bull. As a country lad, born and bred, foxes aren't a real pest outside of urban areas, and cause far less damage than the hunts do.

If you want to control animals, shooting is rather more effective, and the army trains enough squaddies every year.

Besides, hunts have on more than one occasion given me abuse for daring to drive on a road they wanted to use. For my money I'd happily turn rottweilers on the huntsmen.

An ill-informed and badly constructed piece of legislation that had absolutely nothing to do with animal welfare.No matter what your views are regarding fox-hunting no one can deny that it's an unworkable dog's breakfast.

IIRC Blair threw this as a sop to his class warriors on the back benches in return for their backing of Byers over the Railtrack debacle,an early indication of just how low the man was prepared to stoop in order to maintain the New Labour cabal.
History will judge him as a man that was morally bankrupt and duplicitous in the extreme

Shooting is very effective but takes an animal no matter how healthy, whereas hunting tends to weed out the weaker animals. The ultimate irony of course is that now farmers have no reason to allow foxes to live (ie the hunt needing something to chase) more are being shot than were ever hunted.

AFAICTATT (as far as i could tell at the time) it was a class issue - maybe I'm wrong, maybe not, but that was my view.

I tend to agree about it being a "knee-jerk" reaction to a non-issue.

Oh well...

Tangent time, but I didn't realise until I read that article that it's actually illegal to hunt other animals including hares with dogs, I always thought it just applied to foxes. However I almost always see people (alright pikeys) "lamping" with lurchers when I take the dog for a walk along with Jack Russels down the holes and yet nothing is ever heard about these acts? Am I to assume that because they don't wear bright red jackets, blow horns and gallop across the countryside that no one actually gives a toss about what the pikeys are up to?

Its widely known that lefties want to remove all evidence of this countries traditions, identities and achievements to be replaced with ( - insert whatever you like here - ).... look at how many architecturally important buildings have gone recently, red telephone boxes, London buses being phased out to name just a few. Or am I wrong ?
