RX 8 Jump Starting
Discussion
hi
Mt daughter switched on the internal light in my RX8 (2005) on Saturday which I didn't know about until yesterday with the result..........flat battery!!!
I tried last night to jump start it from my MX-5. Trying to start, all lights etc but it won't fire up
Is the MX-5 too small to jump start from or is it something more sinister.
Only had it 3 weeks so new to all this
Hope someone can help
Andy

It sounds like you have flooded the engine and it is possible that the mx5 is not strong enough. (is the mx5 a 1.6. or 1.8?) If it is flooded the starter will still go and the engine will sound like it is trying to start but never gets up enough steam. Mazda assist should be able to sort you out with in an hour or two and the tow truck they send will be strong enough to jump start you as well their number is 0800 777 179.
Did it turn over as normal when you tried to jump start it, or was it sounding a bit lethargic? If it isn't spinning over as normal that suggests that it isn't getting enough power - without enough power it'll be very difficult to start even if nothing else is wrong. If you fancy trying again I would suggest leaving the jump leads connect with the engine running for twenty minutes or so to put some charge into the flat battery before you try to start it.
