Bonjour Team,

After the auto box blowing in my 3.9 efi rangie - I am after a cheap defender for a spot of off roading / green laning.

There are quite a few on autotrader for under £1500, however, is this a bad move - a lot of them are the 2.5td lump which I have heard can be quite problematic.

If so, I will go for another rangie...

Cheers

Don't get another Range Rover, Defender is the way forward! Bear in mind the 2.5TD isnt a reliable engine and any motors fitted with these will be pre-defenders i.e 90s. Buy on condition not on age, as long as the chassis and bulkhead is solid that's most of your main worry.

I've bought a 1993 K reg 200tdi for £1200 so they are out there, it's just finding a solid one that isn't about to snap in half. I looked at a dozen defenders before I found mine.
